Contest & Screening Free to Public!
DETROIT, April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Calling all divas! As further proof that Detroit is "Mad About Minnelli," all Liza wannabes are invited to participate in Michigan's first Liza look-alike contest Tuesday, April 25, on stage at the Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts. The contest, which begins at 7:00 p.m. will be followed by a screening of the 1972 cult classic "Cabaret" starring the lovely Ms. Liza. Presented in anticipation of Liza Minnelli's June 9 performance and the Fifth Annual Cars and Stars fundraiser, the April 25 "Mad About Minnelli" contest and screening are free to the public.
Long lashes, beautiful boas and ruby red lips are trademarks of the lovely Ms. Liza. Metro Detroiters who think that they have what it takes are invited to strut their stuff on the Music Hall stage. Lizas will be asked to parade across the stage to recorded music, and will be judged by local personalities. The event will be emceed by WDIV personality Paula Tutman. The panel of judges includes Jon Jordan, WDIV style guru, Chuck Bennett, society reporter for The Detroit News and Joe Fitrzyck, Creative Director of Solomon Friedman Advertising. Judging is based on legs and lashes; vocal talent is not required. The Liza look-alike contest is open to men and women ages 18 and older. Participants may register in advance by calling the Lovin' Liza Line at 313/887-8547, or at the door. Registration begins at 6:00 p.m. The "Divinely Decadent Happy Hour" for the public also begins at 6:00 p.m., in Music Hall's lower lobby lounge. The winner will receive a Lovin' Liza gift package that includes 2 VIP tickets to the Liza Minnelli concert on June 9 at the Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts, dinner for two at the exclusive Cars and Stars Gala and an opportunity to meet Liza Minnelli following her performance. Two runners up will each receive two tickets to the Liza concert.
Following the contest, participants and audience can view a special screening of the 1972 film classic "Cabaret," a film about decadent Berlin of the 1930s and the Kit Kat Club. Rated PG, "Cabaret" stars Liza Minnelli and Michael York.
This "Mad About Minnelli" evening is presented by Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts in anticipation of the June 9 Liza Minnelli concert and Fifth Annual Cars and Stars event. After an absence of more than 15 years, legendary superstar Liza Minnelli returns to the Motor City in a spectacular, one-night-only event. The concert is the centerpiece of Music Hall's Fifth Annual Cars and Stars gala, the non-profit organization's largest annual fundraising event.
