Lee Iacocca to Receive The Icon Award at Spike TV's AutoRox
Acclaimed Actor Kiefer Sutherland to Present The Award
NEW YORK, April 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Former Chrysler Chairman and CEO Lee Iacocca will receive the Icon Award at the second annual AutoRox on Spike TV airing Tuesday, April 18 (10:00-11:30pm ET/PT). The award honors a living individual whose remarkable contribution in the automotive arena has become legendary the world over. Some of the world's greatest luminaries of automotive design, business, motorsports and media were considered for this prestigious award. Legendary car designer, race car driver, and World War II hero Carroll Shelby won the inaugural award last year.
Kiefer Sutherland of Fox's mega-hit series, 24, will present the award to Iacocca in person at the show's taping on Friday, April 7 at the Fremont Experience in downtown Las Vegas.
"I spent forty-eight years of my life in the auto industry, and it is an honor to be recognized and appreciated by Spike TV's young generation of car enthusiasts," said Lee Iacocca.
Prior to joining Chrysler, Lee Iacocca spent thirty-two years with the Ford Motor Company where he served as President and COO for eight years. He is renowned as the father of the Mustang and he contributed to the design of Ford's Pinto, Cougar, Marquis, and Mark III. He joined Chrysler in 1978 and engineered the company's miraculous turnaround from near bankruptcy. As Chrysler's Chairman, he produced the first American-made front-wheel-drive car, and the first minivan, the T115. He revived the convertible with the Le Baron, and produced the award-winning Dodge and Chrysler K-Cars. In 1984, he founded the Iacocca Foundation to fund research for the cure of diabetes, the disease that claimed the life of his wife, Mary, at age fifty-seven.
Acclaimed actor and musician, Ice Cube, will host and perform at Spike TV's second annual AutoRox. The star-studded homage to cars will feature categories including Best Luxury Car, Hottest Exotic, Convertible, Sports Car, SUV's, and others. Dave Broome ("Tsunami Aid: A Concert of Hope," "The Biggest Loser," "The Radio Music Awards") and Casey Patterson, Senior Vice President of Event Production and Talent, Development, Spike TV, are Executive Producers for AutoRox. Allen Newman serves as Executive in Charge of Production and Ryan Polito is Director.
