'Kalamazoo?' Hits Local Theaters April 7

KALAMAZOO, Mich., April 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The much-anticipated feature film comedy "Kalamazoo?" -- produced by Kalamazoo natives Joanna Clare Scott and Dana E. Kowalski -- premieres in Kalamazoo on April 6 and is set to open in theaters throughout Southwest Michigan on April 7.

Scott and Kowalski, sisters and graduates of Kalamazoo Central High School, formed their production company -- Londinium Productions, Inc. -- in Los Angeles and persevered for more than five years to bring their movie to the screen.

The film tells the story of three women who return for their 10-year high school reunion and are reminded that a time capsule made by their graduating class -- containing predictions for everyone's future -- is due to be opened at the impending event. Horrified by the thought of their unfulfilled goals being revealed, they embark on a comedic quest to ensure the time capsule does not reach the reunion.

The movie was filmed entirely on location in the city of Kalamazoo during the summer of 2004. It stars Scott, Mayim Bialik (TV's "Blossom," "Beaches"), Josie Davis ("Beverly Hills 90210," "Charles in Charge") and also features British cinema star Claire Bloom, Broadway legend Chita Rivera, Dee Wallace Stone ("E.T.," "Sons & Daughters") and Michael Boatman ("Spin City," "Arli$$").

The film was directed by Battle Creek native David O'Malley ("Fatal Instinct," "Mork & Mindy"), who also served as a producer along with Scott and Kowalski. In addition, the Director of Photography, Matt Molitor, grew up in the Kalamazoo area and now makes his home there.

"Kalamazoo?" has an exclusive theatrical run with Grand Rapids-based Goodrich Quality Theaters, Inc. which operates theaters throughout Michigan and the Midwest. The limited release for the film begins April 7 in Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, Holland, Grand Haven and Lowell. Following its initial run in Southwestern Michigan, the plan is to widen the release to include the rest of Michigan and eventually theatres in Indiana, Illinois and Missouri.

The film has already made several appearances on the film festival circuit. It was nominated for five awards at the SMMASH Film Festival in Minneapolis in October where Scott walked away with the coveted Best Actress award.
