Singing for Change: A New Anthem for Energy Independence

Singing for Change: A New Anthem for Energy Independence

'A Crude Energy' Wins Americans for Energy Independence Song Contest

LOS ANGELES, April 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Get ready for a "crude" new national anthem. The non-profit group Americans for Energy Independence has announced the winner of their song contest: "A Crude Energy" by Andre Hoth. The group launched the contest in October 2005 to find a song to express the importance of ending the U.S. dependence on foreign nations to meet its energy needs.

"We believe 'A Crude Energy' best represents our nation's current struggles, our opportunities and our organization's vision and beliefs," affirms Americans for Energy Independence President Chris Wolfe. "Congratulations, Andre, on your winning entry!"

Americans for Energy Independence is dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers of, and solutions to, the United States' reliance on imported oil. The group initiated the song contest as a unique and engaging way of bringing the issue to the public. "For centuries, music has enlightened, encouraged and energized people to take action," Wolfe notes. "It has the power to transform an issue and give voice to a nation - a power we need to help raise consciousness about this critical issue."

According to Wolfe, America's dependence has drastic ramifications: "We spend more than $240 billion a year on imported oil. Oil price and availability dictate the value of our stock markets and retirement portfolios." He further explains, "Every time we fill up our cars, we transfer a greater part of our personal and national wealth to questionable governments."

The organization advocates a 20-year plan that would see the United States eliminate its reliance on Middle Eastern oil by 2025. "We believe we're in a fight for our nation's second independence - from the need for foreign oil," asserts Wolfe. "With 'A Crude Energy,' we have found our rallying song."

The song contest received entries from across the nation, from artists in California, Colorado, Oregon, Utah, Michigan, Missouri and Florida. The entries were showcased on the Americans for Energy Independence website where they were voted on by visitors. "We would like to thank all the musicians, songwriters and their supporters who participated," Wolfe offers. "It was at once entertaining and gratifying to hear the music and feel the commitment that the artists contributed to this important cause."

"A Crude Energy" will highlight a CD of the contest's top ten songs, which will be available to those supporting the continuing message campaigns of Americans for Energy Independence. The other winners and artists to be featured on the upcoming CD include:
