Ensequence Selected by Cox Communications for Interactive TV Application Development Tools

Strategic Alliance Designed to Speed the Creation of CableLabs(R) Enhanced Television Standards-based Interactive TV Services for Consumers

PORTLAND, Ore., April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Ensequence(R), the leading provider of interactive TV authoring software and services, and Cox Communications, Inc., the third-largest U.S. cable provider, today announced that Cox has chosen Ensequence software to accelerate the creation of compelling interactive TV services in support of existing and future cable industry standards.

"Ensequence software enables the best consumer viewing experiences in the world, and we're proud to be working with Cox on their standards-based platforms to bring compelling interactive TV content to their viewers," said Dalen Harrison, Ensequence president and CEO. "Cox undertook an extensive evaluation of the tools and technologies available in the market. By choosing Ensequence, Cox has validated the power and flexibility of our products."

Cox and its programming, advertising, and other interactive TV application providers will be able to use Ensequence on-Q(R) software to quickly create and deliver innovative interactive TV services for Cox subscribers. In contrast to existing interactive TV software development kit models, Ensequence software will give Cox and its partners the creative freedom to achieve their vision while focusing on ideas, not technology. on-Q software can be used to prototype multiple concepts, test them and take the chosen concepts to broadcast rapidly, accommodating last-minute modifications and content changes.

This relationship represents the first OpenCable(TM) Application Platform (OCAP(TM)) MSO contractual agreement for Ensequence in the United States. Ensequence on-Q software will create applications compliant with the OCAP specification from CableLabs and, when fully developed, the new CableLabs(R) OpenCable(TM) Enhanced Television Binary Interchange Format standard. Cox will be able to run applications created with on-Q software on its OnRamp and OCAP middleware platforms using TVWorks Application System products and technology.

"As we work to realize the possibilities and promise of interactive television, we're confident that Ensequence is the right vendor to help us accomplish our goals," said Vince Groff, Director of iTV Product Development for Cox Communications. "Ensequence's support for CableLabs(R) ETV and OCAP cable standards, their ability to provide our programming partners with tools to develop dynamic new interactive TV experiences and their expertise in interactive TV technology and deployment were key in our decision."
