Zap2it.com Adds Coverage of On-Demand Programming

Mobile, Cable VOD and Emerging Formats Get a New Showcase

'What to Watch. Where to Watch It.'

CHICAGO, March 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Responding to the profusion of new ways to watch movies and TV, Tribune Media Services is expanding and redesigning its national entertainment web site Zap2it.com to showcase more on-demand and on-the-go content.

TMS has added a prominent new On-Demand section of http://www.zap2it.com/ aimed at helping consumers understand and make the most of the new entertainment choices now available to them on TVs, computers and handheld devices. The new section joins existing sections covering network television, theatrical releases and DVDs. The popular site's tagline, which for several years was "What to Watch," has now been expanded to "What to Watch. Where to Watch It."

"Almost every day brings another announcement about new entertainment options for on-demand and mobile formats," said Jay Fehnel, TMS' VP/Entertainment Products. "Extending our listings data and recommendations to cover these new areas is a logical next step for our own Zap2it site, as well as for the many other interactive media companies that utilize TMS data."

More than 3 million visitors per month visit Zap2it.com for information about what's on TV, what's playing in local movie theaters and what's new on DVD. Hundreds of local newspaper website affiliates feature Zap2it listings and participate in Zap2it's advertising network. TMS also provides listings and other content to many other top web sites, satellite and cable operators, and mobile services.

Zap2it's initial coverage will focus on recommendations of top choices available through leading on-demand and mobile services. More services, formats and genres will be added in coming months -- along with more features to help users understand the new technologies and discover programming choices they may not have known were available.

"We think we have a great opportunity to help consumers learn about the new choices for watching movies and TV and to be a continually useful source of recommendations for what's worth watching in these new venues," said Rebecca Baldwin, editorial director of Zap2it.

Baldwin noted that Zap2it's emphasis will be on discovery and fresh recommendations through listings and "best bets," rather than primarily through search tools. "Video search engines will help consumers locate specific niche content -- but what we're focusing on is raising awareness of the availability of popular TV shows and movies in convenient new formats."
