NBA Entertainment's Adelson to Address Future Media Concepts' Sports Media and Technology Conference During C4-Sports Electronic Media Show
HUNT VALLEY, Md., March 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Ken Adelson, NBA Entertainment's senior vice president of production operations and planning, will be the keynote speaker at the Sports Media and Technology Conference being presented by Future Media Concepts (FMC) at the C4-Sports Technology Conference and Exposition, July 17-19 at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC).
Adelson has been instrumental in NBA Entertainment's push into digital media in production, distribution, and archiving. His presentation, "The Challenges of Capturing, Editing, Distribution and Storage of Sports Media," will discuss the end-to-end process of managing, storing, sharing, and delivering sports media to multiple distribution outlets -- all on the digital platform.
"Like every other major media content producer, we needed a way to preserve our enormous store of assets and keep our content in the most pristine condition for viewers now and 20 years from now," said Adelson. "We've brought together the best technologies available to ensure we're able to manage this content through a unified solution for media creation, storage, and distribution. There is no one solution for everyone, but I believe the lessons we have learned in creating and coordinating one of the world's largest and most versatile digital production and storage systems can be valuable also to the sports television production professionals attending C4- Sports."
In building its new digital platform, NBA Entertainment (NBAE) engaged Silicon Graphics (SGI) to provide an SGI(R) InfiniteStorage solution capable of accommodating all NBAE content, which today includes 1,500 NBA games a season, the entire WNBA and D-League seasons, and associated feature footage, as well as the 60 years of archival footage currently stored on hundreds of thousands of tapes. The SGI storage solution, which will begin with a storage capacity of 36 TB, is being integrated with NBAE's new digital editing, network, and logging system to provide a powerful data warehouse containing every play, categorized for quick and easy access, repurposing, and distribution.
NBAE makes content available to basketball fans in 214 countries via NBA TV, NBA.com, its broadcast and cable partners, mobile platforms such as cell phones, and online viewing on a worldwide basis. Coaches and referees also have access to NBA footage, which they can use as an evaluation or training tool to improve future performance of teams and individual athletes.
"NBA Entertainment has been a leader in incorporating digital technologies into its broadcast operations, and this immense project serves as an impressive model for maintaining and even enhancing the value of sports content," said Ben Kozuch, president and co-founder of Future Media Concepts. "Ken's keynote will be a dynamic start to what we believe will be a very exciting conference."
In addition to Adelson's keynote address, the Sports Media and Technology Conference will include two full days of training, made up of three simultaneous tracks on the topics of facility management, creative content creation, and next-generation distribution. It will also feature case study presentations by industry leaders and experts.
