College Students Challenged by Their New Freedom, Drop Out Rates Continue to Rise
Thomson Learning has released survey results highlighting the issues that new college students must overcome in their first year to have a successful college career. The survey exposes "freedom," what many incoming students can't wait to call their own, as a new student's potential downfall. In fact, according to government statistics, only 63 percent of all students entering four-year colleges earn their degrees within six years.
Among the survey's findings, more than 78 percent of respondents feel that the biggest challenge for new college students is their heavier workload and more responsibilities coupled with the freedom to decide for themselves when to get their work done.
