Lt. Gov. Named Honorary Chair of Music Festival
Catherine Baker Knoll to Help Promote First Ever Endless Mountain Music Festival in North Central Pennsylvania
HARRISBURG, Penn., Feb. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll will serve as honorary chairperson for the Endless Mountain Music Festival, a first-of-its kind event in Tioga County that will bring together an international group of musicians this summer for a week of concerts, classes, recitals, receptions and lectures.
The theme of the inaugural festival, which is supported by private donations and grant money from the Pennsylvania Council for the Arts, is "Mozart Meets the Tango." The week will be dedicated to the music of Wolfgang Mozart and Astor Piazzolla, both of whom shared a passion for marrying classical and folk music.
"I am delighted to lend my name to this project, which allows residents and visitors to enjoy an exciting week of performances in one of the most beautiful regions of our state," Lt. Gov. Knoll said. "The people working to put this festival together are to be commended, not just for their commitment to the arts, but for their commitment to raising awareness about the beauty and economic opportunities of our Commonwealth."
The Endless Mountain Music Festival, which runs from July 29 through Aug. 5, will take place in the communities of Wellsboro and Mansfield in the heart of Pennsylvania's Grand Canyon. The New York Times last year referred to the area as one of the last "almost perfect" places on Earth.
World renowned artists and the festival orchestra will be directed by Grammy nominee Maestro Stephen Gunzenhauser, the conductor and music director for both the Delaware Symphony and the Lancaster Symphony.
Also serving on the honorary board of directors is Rep. Matt Baker, R-Bradford/Tioga, who said, "I am privileged to receive this honorary board membership. The Endless Mountain music group is providing Tioga County and the surrounding region with artistic, cultural and educational programs that enhance the lives of our citizens."
