Grammy Award Winning Legend to Perform With Sir Elton John
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The Elton John AIDS Foundation announced today that Grammy Award winning artist John Legend will perform at the 14th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) Oscar(R) After-Party on Sunday, March 5th, 2006 at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles. The event will be Co-Hosted by Sir Elton John and David Furnish and is Co-Sponsored by Audi, Chopard and VH1. The soulful Legend will perform songs from his Sony Urban Music/GOOD Music album Get Lifted.
John Legend hit the music scene in 2004 with the release of his major label debut album "Get Lifted." The album, which fuses the flavor of today's hip-hop with the smooth sound of classical soul, went Platinum in 2005, selling over 2.3 million records worldwide. Legend was recently nominated for eight Grammy Awards and took home three Grammy's including the award for "Best New Artist".
"I have been a huge fan of John's since I first heard his album 'Get Lifted'," says Sir Elton John. "I am so thrilled that he won three Grammy's last week and even more thrilled that he will be playing at our Oscar(R) Party."
From childhood John Legend felt a calling to music and remembers music always being a central part of his life. Legend learned to play the piano early on and was playing in the church choir by the time he was nine. Moving into his teen years, Legend enjoyed the sounds of Jodeci, Boyz II Men and Stevie Wonder. Realizing his talent, Legend used his gift to help him through college by winning scholarships that would help pay for his education. He attended University of Pennsylvania as an English major and spent his free time writing and recording music with his a cappella group.
