CBS TV Star's Appearance on February 24th to Include Q&A and Autograph Signing
DALLAS and DENVER, Feb. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Navi Rawat, star of the Paramount/CBS hit TV show "NUMB3RS," will appear at the Teachers Teaching with Technology(TM)(T3) conference on February 24th in Denver, Colorado to promote a new mathematics education program, We All Use Math Every Day(TM). The program is based on a partnership between Texas Instruments (TI) (NYSE:TXN) and CBS, and conducted in association with the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. (NCTM).
T3, pronounced "T-cubed," is an international professional development conference focusing on the use of TI classroom technology for math and science teaching. More than 2000 educators from around the world are expected to attend the 400 seminars scheduled between February 24 and 26.
We All Use Math Every Day, inspired by the hit series "NUMB3RS," is a unique outreach program that uses the math featured on the TV show to engage and interest students in the subject and help them see the wide-ranging impact that math can have on their daily lives. The program includes classroom activities created jointly by TI and NCTM for teachers and students that are available for download at cbs.com/numb3rs.
Rawat, who portrays graduate student Amita Ramajuan on the show, will be participating in a Q&A session about the show and meeting with math teacher attendees afterward to sign autographs. In addition, Andrew Black, head math researcher for "NUMB3RS" and key liaison with the math teacher and mathematician team creating the classroom activities, will give a first-hand account of how the advanced math elements are incorporated into the show. Rawat and Black are enthusiastic about the program and enjoy hearing teacher and student feedback about how "NUMB3RS" has inspired them to get more interested in the use of math beyond the classroom.
"I'm excited to be part of such an innovative program that encourages kids to learn more about math and the amazing role that numbers play in life and in business," said Rawat. "The character Amita is a great role for an actor, as is having the chance to help to educate people about the importance of math, which makes my job even more rewarding. This is a terrific program and I'm proud to be a small part of it."
In addition to her starring role on "NUMB3RS," Rawat is a successful actor whose resume boasts an impressive list of credits including roles on the Emmy Award-winning "24," to "The O.C." She portrayed Ben Kingsley's daughter in the critically acclaimed film "House of Sand and Fog," and also heads the cast of Project Greenlight's highly-anticipated foray into horror, "Feast" for producer Wes Craven and Dimension Films.
