Ruckus Wireless Brings TV Over Wi-Fi Demo to San Francisco

Ruckus Wireless Brings TV Over Wi-Fi Demo to San Francisco

What: FIRST TIME TECHNOLOGY DEMOTV over Wi-Fi in the Home

When: Wednesday, February 22 (by appointment only)
9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Where: THE CARNELIAN ROOM
555 California Street, San Francisco, California
(52nd Floor of the Bank of America building)

The Scoop: Consumers everywhere are soon going to be able to receive all
their communications services over the computer line coming
into the home -- including a new digital television service
called IPTV.

It's estimated that by the end of this year nearly 13 million
households around the world will subscribe to IP-based
video/TV offerings (according to Parks Associates). This year
and next, many U.S. carriers are aggressively rolling out
their IPTV offerings to catch up with their Asian and European
counterparts (in fact, some carriers -- like Sacramento's
SureWest -- have already begun).

But here's the BIG problem: while new digital content and
services (such as IPTV) are being rushed to consumers over the
broadband computer (DSL) line, that computer line is far away
from TVs and other devices. Most homes aren't wired for
computer networks and most consumers don't know how to install
a computer network. Today less than 9 percent of U.S.
households have a home network.

New technology, recently developed in Silicon Valley by Ruckus
Wireless, now lets consumers reliably move this digital TV
(both standard and high definition) around their homes over
Wi-Fi. Consumers can now avoid the costly and cumbersome pain
of wiring or rewiring their homes, and extend (for the first
time) all the benefits of Wi-Fi to their television viewing.
Until now Wi-Fi only worked for Internet access.

Ruckus Wireless was named today to Fast Company magazine's
annual "Fast 50" list.

Ruckus Wireless is setting up a Digital Living Room to show
the broadcast press how streaming picture-perfect high-
definition digital TV (HDTV) and IPTV content over an in-home
Wi-Fi network will actually work.
