GoDaddy.com(R) Scores Stunning Super Bowl XL(R) Victory

Commercial Drives Dramatic Web Spike Seen Around the World

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Feb. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- GoDaddy.com, the No. 1 registrar of domain names worldwide, converted its much talked about Super Bowl commercial into nearly 2 million visitors -- making it the clear cut winner in advertising's Super Bowl(1) showdown.

Internal reports indicate that visits to www.GoDaddy.com were 880,000 above normal on Super Bowl Sunday. The following day, visits continued to rise and were up by 910,000, according to GoDaddy.com president and founder Bob Parsons.

"After 13 revisions, our commercial was finally approved. It aired in a key position Sunday, as the first half of the game was winding down, and it aired by itself, with no other advertisers rubbing up against it. The critics didn't rank it very highly, but the people, the ones who matter, did. People came to see our commercial on the Internet by the thousands and they just keep coming," said Parsons.

Akamai Technologies monitored Internet usage on Super Bowl Sunday and reports two separate significant spikes totaling hundreds of thousands of visitors per minute. "The two spikes in Web traffic were a result of GoDaddy.com's televised ad campaign. More than 80 percent of the visitors per minute that we saw on our global platform during those specific spikes were people accessing the GoDaddy.com site," said Kieran Taylor, director of product marketing at Akamai.

Akamai provides Web delivery services using a network of servers placed strategically throughout the world. In addition to serving GoDaddy.com commercial content, Akamai serves content and applications on behalf of leading brands that leverage the Internet, including the Web sites for more than half of all the nationally televised advertisers during the Super Bowl.

GoDaddy.com is also offering an Internet-only version of its commercial. The spot has only been "partially broadcast a single time," on last night's Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

"The web-only version is popular, but our 'Road to the Super Bowl' section is also getting a great deal of interest. People want to see why so many of our ads were rejected in the first place. The bottom line is not to please the critics or win an Academy Award. The important thing is to reach the customer," Parsons said.
