ANYTHING TO WIN Presents THE CRASH OF JOHN DELOREAN February 14
Documentary Series Features a Look at DeLorean's Life and an Interview With DeLorean's Daughter
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- GSN's new weekly documentary series, ANYTHING TO WIN, will chronicle the up-and-down life of automotive icon John DeLorean Tuesday, February 14 at 9 PM ET/PT. ANYTHING TO WIN: THE CRASH OF JOHN DELOREAN will feature an interview with DeLorean's daughter and present his story in an hour-long segment that includes his successes and ultimate fall.
In 1982, the automotive world was shocked by the arrest of one of its star visionaries on charges of attempting to set up a drug deal. DeLorean had achieved fame and success as a designer of popular sports cars in the 1960's and early 70's. His crowning achievement was the DMC-12, popularly known as the "De Lorean," a revolutionary new automobile featuring distinctive gull- wing doors and a stainless steel exterior. The car was later featured in the popular "Back to the Future" movies.
By 1982, however, his company was on the ropes. Desperately in need of at least $17 million to save his company, he allegedly agreed to invest $1.8 million to import 100 kilos of cocaine from South America. But the deal was actually a "sting" operation set up by the FBI, DEA, Customs Service and the LAPD. In court, he argued that he had been entrapped by law enforcement agencies. ANYTHING TO WIN interviews his daughter, Kathryn DeLorean Seymour, lead defense attorney, Howard Weitzman, the current president of DMC, Stephen Wynne, friends, detractors, and many other associates.
Commenting on the press coverage of her father Kathryn DeLorean Seymour said, "They made such a big deal of John DeLorean getting busted for cocaine. Once he was acquitted it was on the third page of the newspaper in small print halfway down the page in this little article. Half the world doesn't know the charges were thrown out."
ANYTHING TO WIN is produced by Creative Differences and Asylum Entertainment. Erik Nelson, Dave Harding and Frank Sinton serve as executive producers. Nelson and Harding, the team behind BIG BUCKS: THE PRESS YOUR LUCK SCANDAL, GSN's first and highly successful documentary special, have produced more than 400 hours of programming for 12 different networks. Recently, Nelson also produced his first theatrical documentary: Werner Herzog's critically acclaimed "Grizzly Man." Asylum Entertainment, founded in 2000, created the 10-time Emmy nominated series "Beyond the Glory" and the Emmy nominated series "Fearless."
