Clos Du Val to Participate in Oscar Week Festivities
Luxury Napa Winery Will Toast Celebrities While Raising Money for Charity
NAPA, Calif., Feb. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Clos Du Val Wine Co., Ltd., will bring wine country to Hollywood at three Oscar week events: the "Extra" Oscar Awards Lounge on March 1-2, Los Angeles Confidential magazine's Oscar luncheon honoring women in Hollywood on March 1 and the Children Uniting Nations Oscar-viewing dinner March 5.
Clos Du Val will join "Extra" -- the television show with the all-access pass to the entertainment world -- in its Oscar Awards Lounge at the Le Meridien hotel in Los Angeles. There, Oscar nominees, presenters and other A-list stars will be treated to a day of pampering and luxury gifts. Celebrities will sip Clos Du Val's 2002 Ariadne, a proprietary blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as the winery's flagship 2001 Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon. Additionally, guests will take home gift bags featuring half-bottles of soon-to-be-released Clos Du Val 2004 Carneros Chardonnay, a bag of Clos Du Val Chardonnay peanut brittle and a certificate for a three-bottle set of Cabernet Sauvignon -- which includes one bottle each of the Napa Valley, Stags Leap District and Reserve-level Cabernets.
As part of the event, "Extra" will also hold an online auction to benefit Race to Erase MS. Clos Du Val has contributed a double-magnum (3L) bottle of the 1978 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, valued at $1,045. The auction goes live March 3 at 4 p.m. PST (7 p.m. EST). Bidders can link to the auction via www.extratv.com.
"The 1978 Reserve Cab is very fitting -- 1978 was an excellent vintage for us, and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is also celebrating its 78th Academy Awards this year," said Holly Myers, director of marketing and communications for the Napa-based winery. "We are proud to salute talent and achievement while supporting good causes."
Additionally, Clos Du Val will serve the 2003 Carneros Chardonnay and the 2002 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon at a luncheon celebrating women in Hollywood. The March 1 event will be hosted by Los Angeles Confidential, a magazine focused on the people and trends propelling the Los Angeles lifestyle. About 30 women are expected to attend the luncheon at L'Ermitage in Beverly Hills.
On the night of the awards show, Clos Du Val will be the exclusive wine sponsor of an Oscar-viewing dinner to benefit Children Uniting Nations, a nonprofit group supporting national mentoring for at-risk children. Wines featured will be the 2002 Ariadne and the 2002 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. About 1,500 specially invited VIPs -- including Wyclef Jean, Wilmer Valderrama, Jane Seymour and Pierce Brosnan -- are expected to attend the black-tie event at the Hollywood Palladium. Dinner tickets start at $1,000.
A post-party will follow. Multi-Grammy Award winner Chaka Khan and special guest DJ Spinderella will perform, with Miguel Nunez as master of ceremonies. Clos Du Val wine will also be served during the party.
These Oscar festivities are the latest Hollywood-related events for Clos Du Val. The winery was featured at the People's Choice Awards backstage lounge Jan. 10, and "Prison Break" star Rockmond Dunbar also served Clos Du Val at his birthday party Jan. 21.
About Clos Du Val Wine Co., Ltd.
French-born winemaker Bernard Portet and American businessman John Goelet founded Clos Du Val in 1972. After traveling the world for two years in search of winegrowing regions of great potential, Portet selected two sites in the Napa Valley -- 150 acres in the Stags Leap District for growing Bordeaux varieties and 180 acres in the cooler Carneros region to launch Clos Du Val's Pinot Noir and Chardonnay program. For 30 years, Portet and his international winemaking team have been making wines of balance, complexity and elegance. Clos Du Val also imports Domaine de Nizas (France), Taltarni Vineyards (Victoria, Australia) and Clover Hill (Tasmania, Australia). All four wineries share common ownership, and Clos Du Val manages the marketing, sales and promotion of these wines in the United States.
