First Deployment of The BigBand BMR in Austria Supports Telesystem Tirol's New Digital Video Offering And Includes Technical Support

VIENNA, Austria, Feb. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- ECCA Congress -- BigBand Networks, Inc., a leading provider of broadband multimedia infrastructure for video, voice and data, today announced that Telesystem Tirol GmbH & Co. KG has deployed the BigBand BMR(R) (Broadband Multimedia-service Router) for extensive headend-based processing and control of its entire digital television offerings. The operator has selected the BMR to groom for line-up control, integrate with conditional access for secure delivery, and modulate for compatibility with subscriber devices. BigBand Networks has also participated in the design and installation of this deployment and is continuing to provide the operator with technical support.

Telesystem Tirol is utilizing the BigBand BMR to control its line-up of digital offerings, as well as manage bandwidth efficiency and content quality of each program via RateShaping(R) bit rate adaptation. This is designed to provide subscribers with an increasing variety of digital programming and high quality viewing experiences. Additionally, the BigBand BMR provides QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation), which is designed to efficiently deliver digital video programming with compatibility to subscribers' access devices.
