NEW YORK, Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- VH1 will bring exclusive performances from day one of the Voodoo Music Experience in New Orleans to viewers through its broadband network Vspot (http://vspot.vh1.com/), beginning Friday, November 4th.
Coverage from the invitation-only show in New Orleans will include: full performances by Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone Age, The Bravery, New York Dolls, World Leader Pretend, Death From Above 1979, interviews with artists, festival highlights, and an exclusive interview with New Orleans Major C. Ray Nagin.
This year's dual-city Voodoo Music Experience brought together performances from its annual host city of New Orleans and Memphis. New Orleans hosted day one of the event - an invitation-only show for emergency and relief workers.
Monies raised from the Memphis concert will benefit the New Orleans Restoration Fund (NORF). NORF has been established as a donor-advised fund of Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) to support organizations dedicated to the restoration of New Orleans. Its mission is to provide for the basic human needs of the people of New Orleans and to also ensure that the cultural vitality and artistic identity of the city endure. NORF will support both national humanitarian organizations and local, grass-roots organizations directly committed to rebuilding the culture. NORF acknowledges the unique identity of New Orleans and is committed to cultivating and supporting these organizations that help the community to flourish.
NORF will direct a portion of the proceeds to the Bring New Orleans Back Fund, (BringNewOrleansBack.org), a non-profit fund exclusively dedicated to the restoration of the city of New Orleans. The Mayor and his administration of the City of New Orleans will help to advise on the distribution of the remainder of the funds. Funds will be distributed directly to humanitarian organizations such as Mercy Corps and Habitat for Humanity as well as local organizations including: Audubon Nature Institute, a private, not-for-profit member organization with a collection of world-class parks and museums dedicated to "Celebrating the Wonders of Nature; WWOZ, 90.7 FM, New Orleans Roots Radio; and YA/YA, Inc. (Young Aspirations/Young Artists), a local organization dedicated to empowering future generations of young artists and community leaders."
Originally set to take place in its home of New Orleans' City Park, the VOODOO MUSIC EXPERIENCE -- known for its eclectic and intriguing mix of top- tier artists, iconic musicians, indie performers and local New Orleans favorites -- was displaced in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. This marks the first time in VOODOO MUSIC EXPERIENCE's seven-year history that the concert will take place in two cities and will serve as fund-raising event for those affected by Hurricane Katrina.
This year's VOODOO MUSIC EXPERIENCE was produced by Rehage Entertainment in association with the City of Memphis; Dr. Willie W. Herenton, The Mayor of Memphis; Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF); The Riverfront Development Corporation; Memphis and Shelby County Music Commission; The Memphis and Shelby County Film and Television Commission; Tennessee Film, Entertainment and Music Commission; Memphis Music Foundation; VH1; Citadel Radio. Sponsors include: PlayStation(R), Miller Lite, RollingStone.com, Southern Comfort, MTV2, nine.com, SPIN, Windows XP, MySpace.com, STA Travel, KKND, Filter, Revista Sonika, WWOZ and Spencer's.
