Announcing the First International Bach Choral Festival in Leipzig, Germany
LEIPZIG, Germany, November 4/PRNewswire/ -- Leipzig, a city steeped in musical tradition, is slated for a rare
cultural treat from Nov. 11-14 when, under the motto "Soli Deo Gloria,"
choruses from three continents will gather for the First International Bach
Choral Festival. The participants are four top notch international choral
ensembles: the Los Angeles Cathedral Choir (USA), the Reading Bach Choir
(Great Britain), the Iwata Bach Choir (Japan) and the Daejon Philharmonic
Choir (South Korean).

In addition to performances of Bach's choral music, the festival will
also support the restoration of valuable Bach manuscripts from the Leipzig
Bach Archive. Toward this end, a benefit concert will be held on November 12
at 7:30 p.m. in Leipzig's Thomaskirche. Music as a catalyst of friendship is
the underlying theme of a series of free concerts that will be held on
November 11 in Leipzig's parish churches St. Trinitatis, St. Laurentius and
Kreuzkirche. The festival choruses will bring the event to a joyful
conclusion on November 14 under the motto "Gestures of peace around the
world" with a performance of the World Peace Prayer in Nikolaikirche. The
choruses will then hold a candlelight procession around the Bach monument in
commemoration of the "Peaceful Revolution" of 1989.
The choruses are attending the festival in response to an invitation from
Friends of Bach, a central German project that international Bach enthusiasts
intend to realize in Bach's native region. The Bach Choral Festival is being
supported both practically and conceptually by the Bach Archive in Leipzig,
as well as Leipzig Tourist Service e.V. (LTS). The event's official patron is
Dr. Georg Girardet, Leipzig's city council member in charge of cultural
affairs.
Plans call for the International Bach Choral Festival to be held annually
in Leipzig in future years. For further information about the festival, visit
