Harris Corporation Announces Major Software Systems Wins in Four Key Asia-Pacific Territories
Successes in Past Year Include Major Orders in Japan, Taiwan, Philippines and India
SYDNEY, Australia, June 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris Software Systems Asia Pacific, an operation of Harris Corporation's (NYSE:HRS) Broadcast Communications Division, today released details of significant orders which have been received in four markets across the Asia Pacific region in the last 12 months.
This success began in Japan with the sale and installation of the D-Series Automation and Ingest system for SKY PerfecTV!, Japan's leading digital multi- channel broadcasting service with more than 3.6 million subscribers. SKY PerfecTV! chose the D-Series solution for its on-air operation.
The order was placed through Harris' D-Series distributor, ITOCHU Cable Systems Corp., a leading systems integrator in Japanese cable TV, broadband and broadcast media, after an extremely comprehensive six-month evaluation of automation systems by SKYPerfecTV! After a successful period of operation, Sky PerfecTV! chose to upgrade its system by adding additional channels, creating more than 10 channels in total and making use of one of D-Series Automation's key capabilities, its scalability.
In the Philippines, GMA Networks Inc. Philippines chose to install the D- Series Automation and Ingest system for on-air services. GMA, one of the Philippines' leading broadcasters, had recently reshaped and revamped its operations to encompass leading-edge technology in order to facilitate major growth and expansion plans and enhance programming capabilities.
The order was placed directly with Harris Software Systems Asia Pacific after key technical meetings in Manila and several site visits by GMA to Harris installations Channel TEN, Southern Cross Broadcasting, and zer01zer0, all of Australia.
In Japan, Jupiter Programming Company (JPC) chose the D-Series Automation Solution for its service, known as JUPITER TV, to control more than 10 channels of general entertainment. JPC is Japan's largest multi-channel television programming and content provider with interests in 15 platform- neutral television channels. JPC provides a variety of services to channels it manages and those in which it has an investment.
This order also was placed through Harris' Japan distributor, ITOCHU Cable Systems Corporation, after JUPITER TV conducted a comprehensive 12-month evaluation of all major automation systems on the market.
Chinese Television System (CTS) came next as the first D-Series Automation installation in Taiwan. With four free-to-air channels, CTS was originally licensed to operate as a wireless TV station. CTS now provides programming with a strong emphasis on news and education as well as televised distance learning programs. It is the only station in Taiwan to own UHF and VHF channels.
The sale came through Harris' local distributor channels. CTS representatives chose to visit Harris' U.S. centre for training in Denver, Colorado, where they spent several weeks undertaking engineering and operations training and becoming familiar with the D-Series system. The Harris CTS system is multi-channel with local language support.
The fourth territory and Harris D-Series' first installation in India came with Zee TV, India's pioneering Hindi entertainment channel and the largest producer and aggregator of Hindi programming in the world, with more than 30,000 hours of original programming in its library. Harris commissioned the latest D-Series operating system at Zee, providing the first major multi- channel satellite broadcast platform in India with capacity for 36 channels and easy scalability for future expansion.
"The past 12 months have been a huge success for us as we have actively pursued new markets for our Automation, Media Management and Digital Asset Management systems," said Joe Khodeir, president, Harris Software Systems Asia Pacific.
