Writer/Director Wil Shriner to Present Central Florida Student With Movie Role for Film Adaptation of Carl Hiaasen's 'Hoot,' Being Filmed in Florida

~ Student Prize Part of Governor Bush's Read Together, Florida Reading Promotion ~

ORLANDO, Fla., May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Writer/Director Wil Shriner ("Frasier," "Becker") will present a Central Florida student with a walk-on movie role in the screen adaptation of "Hoot" on Monday, May 23. The event will take place at the Orlando Public Library, 101 E. Central Blvd., Orlando, beginning at 2 p.m. The winning student also will receive a $1,000 scholarship from Washington Mutual.

The role in the movie, which will be shot entirely in Florida this summer, together with the scholarship are the grand prizes in the Read Together, Florida essay contest that allowed middle school students to write an alternate ending to Carl Hiaasen's award-winning novel "Hoot." Read Together, Florida is a one state/one book reading promotion that is part of Governor Jeb Bush's Family Literacy Initiative, managed by nonprofit Volunteer Florida Foundation.

Involvement with the movie, including a visit to the set and the walk-on role, is made possible by New Line Cinema, Walden Media and The Kennedy/Marshall Company. The film is being produced by Walden Media ("Holes," "Because of Winn Dixie"), Frank Marshall ("The Bourne Supremacy," "Seabiscuit") and Jimmy Buffet. The "Hoot" movie script was written and will be directed by Shriner. New Line Cinema will distribute the film.
