Riverside Hosts Premiere Screening of Spike TV's 'Invasion Iowa'

Public Invited to First Viewing of Reality Mini-Series

RIVERSIDE, Iowa, March 16 -- The Riverside Area Community Club is hosting the premiere screening of "Invasion Iowa," a reality show where the people of Riverside, Iowa were under the impression that William Shatner and his Hollywood cohorts were filming an independent sci-fi movie. The world premiere takes place Tuesday, March 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the Riverside Elementary School, located at Schnoebelen Street.

The self-proclaimed future birthplace of Star Trek's Captain James T. Kirk, Riverside annually hosts TrekFest, an event to celebrate their supposed honor. Last fall, William Shatner, who played Captain Kirk in the Star Trek movies, came to Riverside to allegedly film a movie called "Invasion Iowa." Near the end of production, Shatner surprised residents when he revealed the entire plan was a hoax, masterminded by him and Spike TV.

Instead of hitting the silver screen, "Invasion Iowa" will telecast in four parts on Spike TV, March 29 - April 1. The show uses local talent to tell the story of Riverside's invasion by creatures from another planet.

Riverside Mayor Bill Poch said Spike TV's mini-series will provide a great deal of visibility for the community of Riverside and the state of Iowa. "I'm proud of our residents and the role they played in creating this movie," Poch said. "As a small town, we're thrilled about the exposure we'll receive on national television. And we're thankful to our partners, including Spike TV which helped us bring this project to completion."

There is no charge to attend the screening, although tickets are required. Beginning March 19, tickets will be available at three Riverside businesses: Kwik 'n' EZ, Riverside Mini Mart and The Peoples Bank.
