SRS Labs' Circle Surround(R) Solution Chosen By Japan's iiV Channel's 'LIVE eye' Program
LIVE eye is World's First Broadband Broadcasting Show to Use SRS Labs' Circle Surround Technology
SANTA ANA, Calif., Feb. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SRS Labs, Inc. (NASDAQ:SRSL), a leading provider of innovative audio, voice and semiconductor technology solutions, announced today that their Circle Surround(R) ("CS") technology will be the standard surround sound encoding solution for "LIVE eye," a live in-studio music program broadcast by TOKYO FM'S iiV (internet interactive teleVision) Channel, an internet broadband broadcasting station. LIVE eye is the first Internet station to make available a constant 5.1 surround sound music concert. SRS Circle Surround is an advanced and patented multichannel format that allows full and vibrant 5.1 or 6.1 surround sound to be broadcast over any existing two-channel carrier such as broadcast television, cable and satellite transmission, streaming media over the Internet, CDs and Digital Radio. Circle Surround encoding is backward compatible with other surround decoders as well as stereo, so listeners of the LIVE eye program who have a Circle Surround or other matrix surround decoder installed with an Internet-ready computer, home theater or automotive entertainment system will hear a stunning 5.1 surround sound concert, while those listening over regular two-speaker stereo systems will hear the broadcast in enhanced stereo.
"LIVE eye," which is sponsored by Marantz Japan, features a broad range of musical talents popular in Japan, such as "Masaki Ueda" singing songs by the Beatles and "Sembello," a piano and saxophone Jazz duo. Content is updated every second Wednesday of each month. LIVE eye's upcoming concert schedule can be found on iiV Channel's URL at http://www.iiv.ne.jp/marantz. Marantz, a licensee of SRS Labs since 1999, features Circle Surround II(TM) ("CS II") 6.1 channel matrix decoding technology in its newest high-end A/V amplifiers. The station delivers video and music content for free to anyone who can access the Internet under a broadband environment.
"We are pleased that LIVE eye has chosen Circle Surround as their standard multichannel broadcast technology," said Jennifer Drescher, vice president of corporate communications for SRS Labs. "While Internet bandwidth continues to improve, it still cannot pass a discrete multichannel audio program efficiently. Circle Surround is the perfect solution for broadcasters because it gives them the ability to offer their audience up to 6.1 surround sound without requiring a substantial change to their infrastructure or distribution method. Add to that, the backwards compatibility with other surround formats also deployed on soundcards and home entertainment systems, Circle Surround continues to be the best option for delivery of surround sound over the Internet."
Circle Surround continues to be the ideal solution for radio broadcasters as it accepts any multichannel source, encodes it to a two-channel output, which can then be transmitted over any existing stereo broadcasting infrastructure, including Internet broadband. The CS-encoded two-channel signal can be decoded into a full surround sound experience with any AV receiver or soundcard. The best results are achieved from listening with a Circle Surround II decoder, such as the Marantz receivers, and can also be found in a wide variety of other home theater products from Pioneer, Accuphase, Theta Digital, Eclipse, Honda, Toyota, and Panasonic, among others. One of the most powerful features of CS encoding is that it is 100 percent backward compatible with mono, stereo and other multichannel decoders and even enhances the quality of stereo playback. This flexibility means that that iiV Channel can broadcast one signal that satisfies all possible playback environments of their listening audience from an old desktop PC to the latest home theater system.

About Circle Surround(R)
Circle Surround ("CS") is a patented and highly versatile multichannel audio encoding and decoding technology capable of supporting a wide range of surround sound creation and playback applications. CS hardware and software encoders can encode up to 6.1 channels of discrete audio for distribution over existing two-channel carriers such as broadcast television, cable and satellite transmission, streaming media over the Internet, CDs and VHS tapes. The next generation of Circle Surround decoding is Circle Surround II ("CS II"), a powerful and versatile multichannel decoder capable of delivering up to 6.1 channels of audio from any mono, stereo, matrix-encoded, or Circle Surround-encoded material.
Circle Surround encoding has made inroads to many of Hollywood's most influential creative talent and professional broadcasters. In September 2004, SRS Labs formed a strategic alliance with Coming Home Studios ("CHS"), one of LA's hottest new full service television and DVD production companies, to create and distribute live concert DVDs in SRS Circle Surround. Recent DVDs encoded in Circle Surround from this exciting new partnership include: Matchbox Twenty's SHOW -- Night In The Life Of Matchbox Twenty, Boz Scaggs' Greatest Hits Live and Godsmack -- Changes. Lava Records, BMG, and EMI Hong Kong have also distributed music CDs mixed in Circle Surround. One of the most powerful features of the technology for music CDs is that it is 100 percent compatible with all playback environments, from headphone to one-speaker mono to two-speaker stereo or multi-speaker surround sound. One mix now satisfies every playback system.
To date, Circle Surround decoding has been incorporated by leading home theater and PC hardware and software manufacturers including: Pioneer, Kenwood, Marantz, Motorola, Theta Digital, Accuphase, M-Audio, Orion Studios and Smart Devices. A wide range of analog and digital implementation options for CS and CS II are available from the SRS Labs' family of platform partners including AKM, Analog Devices, ASP Microelectronics, Cirrus Logic, Philips Semiconductor, STMicroelectronics and Texas Instruments. CS II features patented post-processing techniques to enhance the surround sound experience, including SRS Dialog Clarity(TM), which improves the intelligibility and clarity of center channel information such as dialog, and SRS TruBass(R), which uses patented psychoacoustic techniques to deliver deep, rich bass from any playback system, including those with or without a subwoofer.
Circle Surround, in an automotive application, creates a thrilling in-vehicle surround sound experience from any audio material over a four or more speaker system. Best of all, it delivers surround sound from any audio source, including mono or stereo traditional radio broadcasts, satellite radio, digital broadcasts from HD Radio(TM), standard CD and compressed music from a portable media player. It is the only multichannel decoding solution complete with enhancement techniques that can be customized to solve the unique audio challenges of the automotive environment, even creating the perception of a center speaker if one is not installed. It doesn't just bring surround sound to a vehicle -- it also improves the quality of the audio experience. Manufacturers using Circle Surround in their automotive entertainment systems include Eclipse, Honda, Toyota, and Panasonic.
