QUALCOMM Congratulates India's Reliance on Exceeding 10 Million Subscribers With Its CDMA2000 1X Service
SAN DIEGO, Feb. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- QUALCOMM Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, congratulates Reliance Infocomm, India's largest private telecom service provider, for reaching a significant milestone in exceeding 10 million subscribers on its CDMA2000(R) 1X wireless network. Since launching CDMA2000 1X service in May 2003, Reliance has demonstrated a low subscriber churn rate and established itself as a leader in low-cost, high-quality wireless data services.
Reliance currently offers 'R-Connect' high-speed Internet access and more than 100 applications via their feature-rich 'R World' applications suite, including video clips, interactive TV programming, city guides, live news, messaging and applications download.
"Reliance Infocomm's success in reaching 10 million subscribers marks a significant milestone in fulfilling the promise of CDMA2000 1X in the Indian market, and demonstrates its commitment to providing superior value-added services to its customers in a cost-effective manner," said Jeff Jacobs, president of global development for QUALCOMM. "QUALCOMM congratulates Reliance and looks forward to its continued success in delivering personalized service to its customers and ensuring they have an enriched wireless experience."
"Our CDMA2000 1X service is available nationwide and allows Indian consumers across the country to enjoy and experience the same quality and features that this technology enables and delivers -- innovative and advanced wireless voice and data applications and services," said Kamal Nanavaty, COO- Wireless, Reliance Infocomm.
Reliance further demonstrated its commitment to advanced wireless data services with the company's recent launch of BREW-enabled services. The BREW solution allows Reliance's consumers to download a variety of wireless applications, including games, various ring tones, location-based tools and business applications, over the air and directly to their handset.
Additionally, QUALCOMM announced last month that it has opened a BREW Developer Lab in Mumbai, India. The new lab will provide Indian application developers access to the latest BREW-enabled handsets, software and testing tools, as well as provide developers access to hands-on technical support. The BREW Developer Lab will also help support Reliance's efforts in fostering the developer community in India for the delivery of entertaining and useful content on its CDMA2000 1X network.
