Fax Modem Technology Now Available on SourceForge

ARLINGTON, Texas, Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Alt-N Technologies (www.altn.com), a company specializing in the development of communications software for Internet, Intranet, WAN and LAN applications, today announced the open sourcing of the fax engine code for RelayFax, a facsimile server product.

Available on SourceForge at http://sourceforge.net/projects/relayfaxosproj/ , the RelayFax code consists of modem management and fax transmission technology written in C++. The project also includes a command line program for sending and receiving faxes.

"Releasing our fax engine code and making it available to others is our way of giving back to the open source community," said Arvel Hathcock, CEO, Alt-N Technologies. "We use other open source code in several of our products, and wanted to release this code in an effort to foster and support the open source movement."

The RelayFax engine supports most fax modems using Class 1 and Class 2 protocols. The code is targeted as a Win32 dynamic link library (DLL) capable of sending and receiving faxes through a fax modem COM port. The DLL also provides a high-level API for a host program, such as a fax server, to communicate with a fax modem. For each modem, the DLL creates a thread to handle the input, output and fax protocol.

The fax engine code being made available is the core of Alt-N's RelayFax facsimile server. RelayFax provides small and mid-size enterprises an easy-to-use fax server that surpasses the flexibility, speed and quality of traditional fax machines by enabling users to send and receive facsimiles through almost any email server.
