UnityOne Wins 'Gold' in Intrusion Prevention Systems Category
AUSTIN, Texas, Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- TippingPoint Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:TPTI), the leader in intrusion prevention, today announced its UnityOne won "Gold" in the Intrusion Prevention Systems category in the 2004 "Products of the Year" Awards presented by the editors of TechTarget's Information Security and TheInfoPro (http://www.theinfopro.net/ ).
"It is an honor that UnityOne has been recognized as the best intrusion prevention system by such a well-established and well-recognized security publication like Information Security magazine," said TippingPoint CEO Kip McClanahan. "This award is especially significant to us because it is based on TheInfoPro's thorough analysis of end-users' experience with the product and their feedback."
To select the winners, analysts from TheInfoPro interviewed 416 security managers working in 273 companies, evaluating a total of 1,239 products. The resulting gold, silver and bronze winners were selected based on composite scores using the following criteria:
* Vendor's brand or reputation
* Quality of product
* Delivery of product as promised
* Quality of technical support
* Technical innovation
* Strategic vision
* Competitive positioning of product
* Quality of the sales team
* Interoperability
* Ease of doing business with the vendor.
According to Information Security magazine: "Before there was the ubiquitous term 'intrusion prevention,' there was TippingPoint and its UnityOne inline appliance. TippingPoint's grand vision for automatically stopping attacks as they happen, as well as its unique lineage as a company, makes UnityOne a deserving gold award winner."
"It's the first IPS system that we can stick in front of any workload," says one director of information security quoted by the magazine. "It stops the bad stuff and lets the good stuff through at lightning speed."
TippingPoint's UnityOne is the most decorated intrusion prevention system. It is the only intrusion prevention system awarded NSS Gold. In 2004, UnityOne also received SANS' Trusted Tool designation, eWEEK's Excellence Award for Enterprise Resource Protection, IDG's Network Protection Product of the Year presented by TechWorld, SC Magazine's Best Buy Award, and eWEEK's Analyst's Choice Award. UnityOne has also achieved Common Criteria certification and Tolly "Up to Spec" certification.
TippingPoint's UnityOne Intrusion Prevention System provides Application Protection, Performance Protection and Infrastructure Protection at gigabit speeds through total packet inspection. Application Protection capabilities provide fast, accurate, reliable protection from internal and external cyber attacks. Through its Infrastructure Protection capabilities, UnityOne protects VoIP infrastructure, routers, switches, DNS and other critical infrastructure from targeted attacks and traffic anomalies. UnityOne Performance Protection capabilities enable customers to throttle non-mission critical applications that hijack valuable bandwidth and IT resources, thereby aligning network resources and business-critical application performance.
