Alterbeat, Only Indian Start-up Selected for the MaGIC Accelerator Program, Southeast Asia's Biggest Accelerator

Alterbeat, Only Indian Start-up Selected for the MaGIC Accelerator Program, Southeast Asia's Biggest Accelerator

NEW DELHI, July 27, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --

The Alterbeat Team Will Travel to Kuala Lumpur in August for a Four-month,
Fully Funded Residential Program, an Initiative by the Government of Malaysia

Founded in February 2016 with the objective of creating a vibrant, reliable space for
opportunities in non-traditional fields and enabling people to follow their passions,
Alterbeat [http://www.alterbeat.com ] has steadily grown along its path to become one of
India's most exciting new start-ups. In the past five months, it has listed opportunities
based in India as well as across the globe, from fields as creative and diverse as social
development, entertainment, design, journalism, photography and many more. Prominent
employers that have listed with Alterbeat include World Wide Fund for Nature - India, TIME
Asia, Uber, Huffington Post India, Only Much Louder (OML), The Caravan Magazine and the
Amani Institute (in Kenya and Brazil).

"Alterbeat connects you with relevant talent that is otherwise extremely hard to come
across. The platform makes sourcing suitable talent extremely easy and seamless,
" said Sargam Gupta, Communication Design Team, Uber India.

Now, Alterbeat has been awarded an opportunity to grow and develop even further, after
becoming the only Indian company among 50 start-ups selected for Southeast Asia's largest
accelerator program this year.

The MaGIC Accelerator Program - an initiative of the Government of Malaysia and the
Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre - is a four-month, fully funded program
based in Kuala Lumpur that aims to promote entrepreneurship across Asia. Those who make it
to the final cohort following a rigorous selection process get access to world-class
mentors, a monthly stipend, accommodation, workspaces and other benefits worth over US $
400,000.

"As traditional work environments are being transformed, with Gen X and Y no longer
bound to one job or one office, and with an increased emphasis on work-life balance and
doing impactful work in fields one is passionate about, these career aspirations need to
be taken more seriously," said Alterbeat CEO Kaavya Gupta. "Alterbeat is the only
organised platform in India that aggregates opportunities with varied levels of commitment
across multiple alternative fields. It also caters to those wanting to pursue these fields
alongside their current careers, addressing apprehensions related to job security and
income."

The start-up has been selected for the MaGIC program from among 500 applicants across
30 countries, and the team is excited to make the most of the opportunities it presents.

"Apart from the mentorship and a variety of resources that the accelerator will
provide, the program gives us the opportunity to gather global perspectives from 49 other
teams to help us tackle a problem faced by millennials not only in India, but across the
ASEAN region," Kaavya, 24, added. "Our vision is to make Alterbeat the primary social
networking service for those pursuing interests in alternative fields."
