Explore the power and possibilities of virtual reality technology and storytelling

TORONTO, June 2, 2016 /CNW/ - The Italian Contemporary Film Festival (ICFF) is proud to announce its 3rd Annual ICFF Industry Day, being held again at Pinewood Toronto Studios on Stage 10, the home of SIRT (Screen Industries Research and Training Centre, Sheridan College). This interactive day of workshops, panels and technology showcase takes place on Thursday, June 16th, starting at 8:30 am, with a 5:00 pm networking reception and an After Party starting at 10:00 pm (at The Stirling Room). Press preview from 8:30 am to 9:30 am, by request.

Industry Day provides a rare opportunity for participants to spend a day at Pinewood's prestigious purpose-built film studios and get hands on experience with the latest tools and techniques in VR, 360 filmmaking and storytelling with industry experts. Presented by ETV Film Inc and SIRT, this immersive, one-day event allows interaction with a spectrum of industry leaders from big and small budget projects, features and documentaries, traditional and VR filmmaking, producers, directors, funders and technology providers.

Moira Romano, ICFF Board Member, co-host of Industry Day, and Executive Producer ETV Film Inc., says, "ICFF Industry Day 2016 is focusing on exploring the new frontier in immersive content - Virtual Reality and 360 filmmaking. VR is a bonafide game-changer that is quickly becoming a multi-billion dollar industry. News, entertainment, gaming and other consumer engagements are scrambling to adopt the medium - we even saw 360 filming in Raptor replays." Romano adds, "The competition is fierce. Tech companies are pushing to deliver cameras and headsets, while consumer and industry demands are driving the need for VR content."

Industry Day attendees will get intimate, behind the scenes access to this rapidly changing world of storytelling - from funding sources, evaluating storytelling techniques for various audiences, and creating content that puts audiences in the center of the action.

Guest speakers include: Don Carmody, legendary Canadian Oscar-winning producer (Chicago) and first adaptation of videogame to film (Resident Evil); Gareth Seltzer, Co-founding Investor RYOT (now HuffPostRYOT) and associate producer of 2016 Oscar-nominated film BODY TEAM 12; Matt Lyon, Creative Director of 3D big budget animated feature Arctic Justice: Thunder Squad, AMBI Pictures / AIC Movie Inc.; Zaib Shaikh, Toronto's Film Commissioner; Martin Lord, The Ontario Centres for Excellence (OCE); and Jeff Preyra, Writer / Director (Bvrned) and head of 360 story labs; among other experts.

The on-site VR Showcase will feature interactive exhibits by Legend 3D VR, HuffPostRYOT, Eye-LIVE Media, AMBI Pictures / AIC Movie, CEV presenting Nokia OZO, The Post Office, itsme 3D Avatar, Sheridan College's student project. SIRT will also showcase HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Facebook's Two Big Ears, GoPro, and Microsoft HoloLens.

John Helliker, Director Strategic Partnerships & SIRT Centre, says, "SIRT is very honoured to be partnering with ETV Film Inc. once again this year. We look forward to showcasing the cutting-edge virtual reality and 360 storytelling innovation and research taking shape at SIRT and Sheridan."
