Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive Mr Leung Chun Ying attended the concert to join the music feast with singers and music fans, granting Dr Shi Hong Kong Special Contribution Award in recognition of his support of this festival and Hong Kong Public Culture.
Dr. Shi together with famous pop singers from Hong Kong, Taiwan and China mainland contributed to the concert to revitalize Asian pop music. South Korean idol band T-ara and pop singer Kim Jong Kook brought back hallyu on stage, while the climax of the concert achieved when Kenny Bee released his new song with his daughter Chung Yi. Other singers attended included Shin from Taiwan, Vincy Chan, Adason Lo, Tai Chi Band from Hong Kong, triggering a new round of pop music fanaticism.
The festival is not only a summer celebration for music fans but also a fair center stage for young talented singers. "The purpose of this festival is to encourage young singers to embrace the music and to follow their dreams." Sponsor Dr. Shi Jianxiang said.
Eight student singers from Hong Kong universities joined nine from mainland China in the singing contest, two winners among whom will embark on a six-month tour in 13 Asian cities. Dr, Shi indicated that he is pleased to see those young singers fighting for achieving their dreams.
As an entrepreneur and philanthropist from Shanghai, Dr. Shi has donated over CNY 500 million ( USD 815 million ) in education, sports, culture and various industries for the belief of giving out to the society, among which 1.3 million USD was put into this music festival. 'Shanghai is a city full of cultural vitality while Hong Kong is a highly developed financial center. The two cities have their own culture scenes that rank top in the country and the world. Together Shanghai and Hong Kong will embrace a bright and dynamic future,' Dr. Shi emphasized.
Dr. Shi was modest when talking about his success. He said by no chance should he get on top without following his dreams. Thus he is willing to help youngsters to pursue theirs. "I would like to assist youngsters as much as I can to make their dream come true," Dr. Shi further explained his intention of sponsoring the event, "Their future reflect the future of the world."
Producing various cross-cultural movies including Ip Man 3, Dr. Shi Jianxiang has been committing himself to public culture industry, particularly on supporting cross-cultural communications in recent years for the belief of giving out to the society. "Those talented singers who won the competition, no matter how underappreciated they feel, are always welcomed to come to me as long as they stick to their dreams." Dr. Shi said.
The 2015 Hong Kong Youth Music Festival has drawn public attention once again to public culture development. As special envoy of US-China cultural communications, Dr. Shi is expecting more individuals and groups to conduct or to support public cultural activities in order to establish a cultural communication platform for Asian youths.
