PBS Features Dr. David Amron and Patient to Discuss Lipedema on National Television

American Health Journal Discusses Lipedema with Dermatologic Surgeon and Patient

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. David Amron, elite dermatologic surgeon and liposuction expert of Beverly Hills, CA, was featured on PBS's American Health Journal for his unique approach in treating lipedema, a fat storage condition impacting 17 million women nationwide. Lipedema is an often-misdiagnosed disease with no proven cure other than tumescent lymphatic sparing liposuction - a procedure most surgeons refuse to perform.

The segment focused on Dr. Amron's unique approach in treating lipedema, and also discussed the struggles of living with the disease in an interview with Crystal Blount, one of Amron's recent lipedema patients to complete corrective treatments.

"When I was a preteen, I started noticing my legs were shaped a lot differently, and kids would tease me a lot and call me names like 'Thunder Thighs,'" Blount recalls.

Dr. Amron's advanced approach uses a combination of techniques during liposuction surgery, specifically customized for each patient to deliver the best results.

"Really, the only treatment or potential cure for lipedema is liposuction surgery," Dr. Amron said. "With lipedema patients, it's important to have a very specific technique, and my approach is under local anesthesia, where the patient is conscious, and it's also a way of doing it that is lymphatic sparing, where there's no chance of damaging the deeper lymphatics."

No amount of diet and exercise can prevent or cure lipedema, and the condition progressively worsens, often leading to debilitation. Through research, Blount found hope and an expert to treat her condition.

"What prompted me to come to Dr. Amron was that I'd been searching for a solution," Blount said. "I learned that tumescent liposuction has very good long-term results for people who suffer with lipedema."
