Minister Fantino and Shaw Media Co-Host Screening of 28 Heroes


OTTAWA, Nov. 6, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of
Veterans Affairs, joined members of the Shaw Media family, Canadian
Veterans and Canadian Armed Forces personnel at a special screening of
HISTORY's documentary 28 Heroes heldat the Canadian War Museum, in Ottawa, earlier this evening.



"I am very proud to participate in this special screening of 28 Heroes during Veterans' Week," stated Minister Fantino. "This documentary
demonstrates the dedication of the Canadians who fought to defend the
Republic of Korea and uphold our shared values of peace and freedom. I
commend Shaw Media for marking the Year of the Korean War Veteran with
this production, helping all Canadians better understand the sacrifices made by our men
and women in uniform during that conflict."



"The new documentary 28 Heroes is a continuation of HISTORY's commitment to bringing the important
stories of our Veterans to Canadians," said Barbara Williams, Senior
Vice-President of Content, Shaw Media. "We are grateful for the
opportunity to join Minister Fantino in commemorating 2013 as the Year
of the Korean War Veteran, and in honouring the Veterans featured in
this film, Ed Mastronardi and Red Butler."



Narrated by two of the 28 heroes, Mastronardi and Butler, the film
documents the compelling story of the 2nd Platoon, "A" Company of the
2nd Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment and their courage and strength
during a relentless battle against communist forces in Korea.



During the evening, Minister Fantino also presented ministerial
certificates of excellence to Lieutenant Ed Mastronardi and Private Red
Butler, members of the 2nd Platoon, "A" Company, 2RCR, in recognition
of their service and incredible valour during the conflict as well as
their narration and support of the film.



The documentary 28 Heroes will air Monday, November 11 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HISTORY.



The Korean War was one of Canada's most significant military engagements
of the 20(th) century. More than 26,000 Canadians served in the conflict prior to the
signing of the Armistice of July 27, 1953, that ended the active
fighting.
