New Center Park Announces a Summer Full of Music, Movies and More
Park Opens June 5th
DETROIT, June 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- New Center Park opens June 5th and will bring back some programming favorites from over the years and feature a few new twists. The park, located in the shadow of the Fisher Building, is one of the most intimate sites in the area to enjoy music. Almost all programing is free.

-- New this year is The Classical Revolution Lunch Series. Every Thursday
from noon until 1:00 p.m. live classical music will complement your
lunch. The program opens with CutTime Simfonica's "The Revolution Will
Not Be Televised" on June 6(th). The series continues through the end of
August.
-- Wednesday Night at the Movies starts June 5th, presented by Henry Ford
Health System, Health Alliance Plan, and WDET. This year's films have a
Detroit focus with "Beverly Hills Cop" and "Sparkle" starting the
series. The third week features a perennial favorite, "Psycho." Park
gates open at 8:00 p.m. Showtime is at 9:30 p.m.
-- Thursday Al Fresco Jazz & Blues. This music series opens on June 6th
with Detroit-based performer, Thornetta Davis. Other not-to-be-missed
performances will feature the Rhythm Society Orchestra with Paul King on
June 13th, Will Sessions on July 25th, and the Hot Club of Detroit on
August 15th. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. Music begins at 6:00pm.
-- Saturday Showcase presented by Metro Times. Our Saturday nights have
been renamed and rebranded, and promise to be equally exciting. The
showcase begins June 8th with the Stewart Francke Band, followed by
Armando Vega with a salsa and Latin jazz music performance on June 22nd.
New Center Park will continue working with great events like the Concert
of Colors and host a special preview of their festival on June 29th
featuring Bomba Rica and M.A.K.U. Sound System. Also new to the series
is Allons Records who will present "Holy Ghost Fire," an evening
showcasing some of Detroit's most talented and long-running gospel
groups on July 13(th). The Saturday Showcase closes with a performance
by the electrifying Celtic music duo, The Moxie Strings, who will open
for award-winning singer-songwriter, Jill Jack. Gates open at 8:00pm.

New Center Park is open daily as a public park from 8:00 a.m. to dusk, year round, weather permitting. Hours are subject to change for special events. All weekly programs and events are free and open to the public. Some fundraisers and some ticketed events may occur. Guests to the park can also enjoy delicious food and drinks at the New Center Park Cafe. The cafe is open during most scheduled and special events except for the Thursday Classical Lunch Series.
