Education Reform Groups To Host Sneak Preview of Powerful New Movie "Won't Back Down" in Indianapolis

Screening and Panel Discussion on Tuesday, September 18 at AMC Showplace 17 in Indianapolis, Indiana

WASHINGTON, Sept. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Federation for Children, School Choice Indiana, and 100 Black Men of Indianapolis today announced that they will host a free private film screening of the upcoming education reform movie "Won't Back Down" on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at the AMC Showplace 17 theater in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The free screening will begin at 7 p.m. at the AMC Showplace 17 theater in Indianapolis, followed by a panel discussion featuring a host of education reform leaders from across the state, including Indiana Speaker of the House Brian Bosma, Indianapolis Deputy Mayor of Education Jason Kloth, and Kevin P. Chavous, senior advisor to the American Federation for Children and an Indianapolis native.

The movie, starring Academy Award-nominated actresses Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis, captures the story of two determined mothers who join together to stand up against the educational status quo and fight for better educational options for their children and their communities. "Won't Back Down," which is inspired by true events, captures the anger and disbelief that many parents across the country have with being forced to send their children to underperforming schools, and it showcases one of the newest education reform innovations--the parent trigger option--as a resource for parents.

"This movie tells of the very real frustration felt by parents all across the country, and most importantly, it shows the power of working together to give children the best educational opportunities possible," Chavous said. "We are proud to partner with our allies in Indiana to showcase such an important message and to highlight the amazing work that ordinary parents can do for their kids."

"'Won't Back Down' demonstrates very clearly that all parents, regardless of their income, want what's best for their kids, and it's vital that we empower parents to access high quality educational options," said Lindsey Brown, executive director of School Choice Indiana. "The film sets the stage for that discussion well."

The screening is free and open to the public. Those interested in attending must RSVP prior to the event with their full name and requested number of tickets by emailing IndianapolisWBD@gmail.com.
