The Weather Channel Calls for Nominations for Severe Weather Heroes
Help recognize someone deserving, and they could be rewarded $2,000
ATLANTA, Aug. 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Weather Channel® is calling for nominations of everyday people who have helped their friends, family, neighbors or strangers in ways big or small during severe weather - be it a flood, tornado, hurricane, drought or snowstorm - for the chance to win $2,000 and be featured on The Weather Channel. From August 22 - September 7, consumers can visit www.facebook.com/TheWeatherChannel to share how they or others have helped someone in need as a result of this year's devastating weather events.
Across the country, from California wildfires and tornadoes that ravaged the Midwest and Southeast to blizzards that battered the East Coast and a widespread drought, 2011 saw violent weather cut a swath through many American towns, changing their tight knit communities forever. But wherever a storm wreaked havoc, selfless, generous and courageous acts emerged as well. Saving a neighbor's child, welcoming others into one's home, donating goods and services - people have gone above and beyond to help those in need around them.
Starting September 7, The Weather Channel Facebook fans, viewers and weather.com users will vote for the most deserving severe weather superstar. From five finalists, three will win $2,000 and share their stories on a limited-run series premiering in December on The Weather Channel hosted by Steve Watson (Monster House, Don't Sweat It). The show's concept is close to Watson's heart, as his hometown of Cleveland, Tennessee, was hit by a tornado earlier this year. Watson raised more than $400,000 to help the town rebuild.
Now is the time to recognize and thank these people for their contributions. Submit nominations via www.facebook.com/TheWeatherChannel.
