Research Now Poll Reveals Entertainment Trends to Coincide With This Year's Australian Film Festival

LONDON, August 15, 2011/PRNewswire/ --

Research Now has conducted a recent poll among 1,000 Australian
respondents aged 18 and over who are members of the Valued Opinions Panel to
find what the preferred genre of film among respondents. Comedies topped the
poll as the favoured genre of film (58%) and, although women are more likely
than men to watch comedies (39% of all females surveyed), 19% of all males
surveyed also enjoy a good laugh and feel good storyline.

A close second among all females surveyed, 'drama' is the number two
genre of choice (23%) whilst men enjoy 'action and adventure' movies second
best (19%). And much like the male movie goer population, 19% of all females
surveyed enjoy 'action and adventure' movies third best, whilst males enjoy
a good 'sci fi/fantasy' film. 'Special interests' and 'thrillers' followed
closely behind with 19% and 15% of the total vote respectively.

This year, MIFF celebrated its 60th anniversary, making it one of the
oldest film festivals in the world. As part of this celebration, MIFF
offered a showcase of the graphic art through the past 60 years. Photos,
leaflets, documents and programmes were available in the exhibition to show
audiences how the spirit of the festival has evolved through over half a
century. In addition to being one of the longest running film festivals in
the world, MIFF is a major aspect of Australian cinema and also
significantly contributes to the local economy, delivering more than 7
million dollars each year.*

The Melbourne International Film Festival ran between 21 July and 7
August and offered film debuts from over 50 countries. This much-anticipated
cinematic event was punctuated with parties spanning across 17 days.
