MONDAY, AUGUST 15: WOODSTOCK
Profile America -- Monday, August 15th. This weekend marks the 42nd anniversary of one of the watershed events of the turbulent decade of the 1960s -- the four-day music festival known as Woodstock, held at a rural dairy farm in Bethel, New York. Up to 200,000 were expected to hear 32 of the top musicians of the time, but the actual attendance ranged up to half a million. The event is widely considered one of the greatest moments in popular music history. Many of those who attended are now of an age where they are nearing eligibility or have already joined the ranks of those on the rolls of social security and medicare. There are close to 53 million Social Security beneficiaries, and 46 million enrolled in Medicare. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau, online at www.census.gov.
