Fisher Klingenstein Films Acquires "Back Door Channels - The Price of Peace"
Documentary Featuring Jimmy Carter, Henry Kissinger, Menachem Begin, Anwar El-Sadat, and Boutros Boutros-Ghali to Begin Theatrical Release in September
NEW YORK, June 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Fisher Klingenstein Films has acquired the worldwide rights to the documentary "Back Door Channels: The Price of Peace." The film is about the interplay between the official government channels and the men who acted largely behind the scenes of the peace process between Egypt and Israel - men who risked everything - even their lives - in the pursuit of peace. "Back Door Channels" is set to open in New York City on September 16th, and will expand to other markets throughout the fall.
The Middle East has been at the center of violence and upheaval for millennia. Tracing the confluence of factors that led to the Camp David Accords and ensuing peace treaty of 1979, the film examines not only the powerful personalities - Menachem Begin, Anwar El-Sadat, and Jimmy Carter - that drove the peace process, but also the secret liaisons, communications, and third-party world leaders who played important yet seldom understood roles in forging the peace agreement that has become the cornerstone of stability in the Middle East.
In its review of the film, Variety called "Back Door Channels" "riveting" and "enthralling." The film was produced by Matthew Tollin and Arick Wierson and directed by multi-Emmy award-winning director Harry Hunkele.
Danny Fisher, former CEO of City Lights Media and now CEO of distributor Fisher Klingenstein Films said, "We are pleased to make 'Back Door Channels' the first theatrical release of our new company. The film is incredibly timely given the current upheavals in Egypt, Libya, Syria and literally all over the Middle East and delivers a powerful message about the value of diplomacy."
Matthew Tollin, the film's Emmy-award winning producer said, "It is a dream fulfilled getting 'Back Door Channels' to the big screen. Hearing from the likes of Former President Jimmy Carter and Henry Kissinger on how to create peace today is as timely as ever. We are very excited Fisher Klingenstein understood this before the birth of the 'Arab Spring' this year."
In the film, Jimmy Carter reveals that "the basis for a comprehensive peace is there." He further relays that if President Barack Obama takes his personal 'back channel' advice, "then we can have peace."
Leon Charney, who appears in the film said, "We now live in a world where Wikileaks and the internet make it nearly impossible to negotiate using secret diplomacy. 'Back Door Channels' is an important reminder that peace can be achieved not through guns and bombs but through the lost art of diplomacy and the necessary secrecy involved."
