Rosie the Riveter Film Will Premiere Tuesday in Charleston, West Virginia

Rosie the Riveter Film Will Premiere Tuesday in Charleston, West Virginia

WHO: Anne Montague, executive director of Thanks! Plain and Simple; B.J. Gudmundsson, film producer; Tijah Bumgarner, primary videographer; John Haulotte, lead veteran on film project; and several women who filled "Rosie the Riveter" jobs in World War II, proving that women could do high-quality "men's work."

WHAT: Premiere of "We Pull Together: Rosie the Riveters, Then and Now," a documentary film about the civilian women who kept American industry strong while men were off fighting World War II. These women, who are all about 90 years old, are still contributing to society decades after they broke barriers in the work force.

WHEN: Tuesday, June 28, with reception beginning at 5:30 p.m. and film showing from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Several "Rosies" will be available for interviews before the film.

WHERE: Capitol Center theater, 123 Summers Street, Charleston, West Virginia

WHY: This film, which is supported by a grant from the West Virginia Humanities Council, commemorates the work of "Rosie the Riveters" and preserves the memories of many of the Rosies who are still around. Soon, the film will be available for use in schools, civic groups, colleges, and other educational venues. Although the film focuses on West Virginia women, it is intended to be used to start a national Rosie the Riveter movement, helping other communities follow West Virginia's lead. The film is part of the work of Thanks! Plain and Simple, which also helps current veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan re-establish themselves in civilian life by learning to create and manage projects like this.
