Final Days to Nominate Bay Area's 2011 Cox Conserves Hero
Program to donate $10,000 to local environmental nonprofits
SAN FRANCISCO, June 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- KTVU Channel 2, in partnership with The Trust for Public Land (TPL), is seeking nominations for the San Francisco Bay Area's 2011 Cox Conserves Heroes program, a national awards program that honors volunteers and celebrates conservation. A total of $10,000 will be donated to the winner and finalists' environmental nonprofits of choice.

The Cox Conserves Heroes program asks local residents to nominate people in their community who volunteer their time to help create, preserve or enhance outdoor places for everyone to enjoy.
Nominations are accepted through June 30, 2011 at 5 p.m. PT. To nominate an individual, visit www.ktvu.com and select the KTVU tab on the right for "Cox Conserves Heroes."

Hero is announced.
This is the third year for the Bay Area's Cox Conserves Heroes program. Lennie Roberts was the Bay Area's first Cox Conserves Hero in 2009 in recognition of her 50 years of environmental volunteer work. As Roberts' nonprofit of choice, the Committee for Green Foothills received $5,000. Last year, Bruce Beyaert was selected for his volunteer work on the San Francisco Bay Trail, which received $5,000 as his nonprofit of choice.
The Cox Conserves Heroes program was created through a partnership between The Trust for Public Land and Cox Enterprises, the parent company of KTVU Channel 2, to honor everyday conservationists. Since the program launched in 2008, nearly $125,000 has been donated to local environmental nonprofits. Cox Conserves Heroes also runs in Atlanta; Hampton Roads, Va.; San Diego and Seattle.
