ATLANTA, June 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Cancer Society today announces that "Choose You," a new documentary film about cancer prevention developed in collaboration with Academy Award-winning Actress Hilary Swank, will premiere this Thursday, June 23 at 9 p.m. EDT/6 p.m. PDT, exclusively on ChooseYou.com and Facebook.com/ChooseYou. "Choose You," which runs about half an hour, was created to inspire women to make their own health a priority and take everyday steps to help reduce their risk of cancer.
The documentary helps mark the first anniversary of Choose You, a nationwide movement created by the American Cancer Society to raise awareness about the actions women can take to reduce their cancer risk, including eating right, exercising, avoiding tobacco, and getting recommended cancer screening tests. A new report from the American Cancer Society estimates that nearly 775,000 women will be diagnosed with cancer this year. In fact, 1 in 3 women will get cancer in her lifetime. The Choose You movement wants to help change those odds.
"Choose You" the documentary profiles three inspiring women on a journey to put their personal health first. It tells the powerful and emotional stories of why they are finally choosing themselves despite many challenges that often get in the way of a woman's personal health priorities. Through this documentary, the American Cancer Society aims to reach women across the country with the message that simple actions can help reduce their risk of cancer and help change the odds.
National presenting sponsors, SPRITE ZERO(TM) and Walgreens, are each providing additional marketing support on behalf of the Choose You movement to help raise awareness among women about the importance of cancer prevention.

About the American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. As a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. We save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight. As the nation's largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing more than $3.5 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do. As a result, about 11 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year. To learn more about us or to get help, call us any time, day or night, at 1-800-227-2345 or visit cancer.org.
