Biebermania and Never Say Never Infuse Life Into Sagging Home Video Market

Biebermania and Never Say Never Infuse Life Into Sagging Home Video Market

LOS ANGELES, May 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- "Biebermania" and "Never Say Never," two documentaries that explore the rise of Justin Bieber, are turning major retail chains nationwide into "Beliebers."

In the weeks leading up to the release of the Justin Bieber films, fans have patrolled websites, such as Amazon, Wal-Mart, Kmart and Borders purchasing pre-orders for the anticipated movies.

Both films were scheduled for nationwide release last week, but store managers decided to offer both films to shoppers over the previous weekend because of customer demand for the highly anticipated product.

"Biebermania" and "Never Say Never" were released to a flurry of activity by a legion of young fans and parents looking to help fan the flames of Bieber Fever.

According to a major retail manager, "Copies have been going at a rapid pace where one day Biebermania sells out and they grab the copy of Never Say Never. We are constantly restocking the shelves; the success of the films has sparked my interest enough to purchase both films to see what the hullabaloo is all about.

"I guess watching these excited young girls giddy over the films have given me 'Biebermania.'"

"Justin Bieber's life's journey is well-documented on YouTube and the broadcast media over the past two years, but 'Biebermania' delves into the stories you haven't heard," said the film's director Thomas Gibson.

Filmmaker Thomas Gibson, who has produced documentaries on a wide range of subjects from Wayne Newton, Patty Hearst, and The Menendez Brothers to Chris Brown, understands a good story when he sees one.

"Justin Bieber's story is a fairy tale-like story of rags to riches and it's something that people - young and old - can appreciate," Gibson added.

Bieber's meteoric rise is the new blueprint for success in the music industry if you are not a contestant on such popular shows as "American Idol" or "The Voice." The Internet has leveled the playing field for would-be stars who don't have a famous uncle who happens to be a record executive.

Biebermania focuses on how Bieber's online ingenuity was able to showcase his vast talents and overcome the extreme odds of being discovered.

"We all love this kind of story; it's Cinderella. If you are a sports fan, it's Rudy or Brian Piccolo, or it's the U.S. team Hockey team in 1980. Bieber's story is just that fascinating," said Gibson.

One thing is for sure: "Biebermania" is in full effect; fans are tweeting to each other, "digging" each other's articles, "liking" the film on Facebook and leading parents to the local retail store to purchase the movies.
