Winning Screenplay! Famous Monsters of Filmland Discovers the Vampire Symphony Orchestra in 'The Romanian Tomb' by Erik von Wodtke

LOS ANGELES, April 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Vampire/Romance screenplay entitled "The Romanian Tomb," by Erik von Wodtke, wins the "Famous Monsters of Filmland screenplay competition." The genre prestige organization announced this year's winners April 15th, with gratitude for the large spirited support and interest from the public: "Thank you to all our guests and filmmakers that helped make the first Imagi-Movies Film Festival a success." Famous Monsters of Filmland is one of today's leading sources for sci-fi, horror, and fantasy-genre entertainment. The Imagi-Movies Festival celebrates Forrest J Ackerman's legacy and his devotion to inspiring and facilitating the imagination of storytellers. The Imagi-Movies Festival is the official film festival of Famous Monsters of Filmland Magazine, to be held April 2011 in Los Angeles, CA (http://famousmonstersconvention.com).

Erik von Wodtke's winning screenplay, with the tagline: "Discover The Vampire Symphony Orchestra," hopes to find its way into production soon. The story is the first of three neo-gothic romantic/thrillers of professor Dr. Joseph West, who in this first adventure, travels to Romania with his two research assistants and discovers the frightful true horrors of Romanian vampire culture. Set 90% on location in Romania, the film will take theatergoers on a romantic thrill-ride to see the ancient philharmonic.

"It's such an honor to be selected out of the gazillion scripts this year. I have been very intrigued by the Twilight fan craze phenomenon and so I took on the ambitious challenge of writing a vampire/romance of my own," Erik von Wodtke expressed. "Though this movie is geared towards the same audience as Twilight, it is a bit scarier, a bit sexier, and a bit more edge-of-your-seat thriller. What is most interesting about Vampires to me is that they live so long and experience a phenomenal amount of history. The Vampire Symphony Orchestra would be the most magnificent performance imaginable because they logically have had hundreds of years to practice and get it right. Now that's a date!" The Romanian Tomb has also received recognition as the 2010 Feature Screenplay Finalist at the "A Night of Horror International Film Festival."

Famous Monsters of Filmland was originally conceived as a one-shot publication by James Warren and editor Forrest J Ackerman (1916-2008), published in the wake of the widespread success of the package of old horror movies syndicated to American television in 1957. But the first issue, published in February 1958, was so successful that it required a second printing to fulfill public demand. Its future as part of American culture was immediately obvious to both men.
