Charles Osgood of CBS on Civility in the Media

Osgood was the first speaker in a series of lectures on civility in America at the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs. The series is being sponsored by The Dilenschneider Group in conjunction with the Council to mark the firm's 20th anniversary.

Osgood has hosted CBS Sunday Morning News since 1994 and has hosted his daily radio program The Osgood File on the CBS Radio Network since 1971. In 1990 he was inducted into the radio division of the National Association of Broadcaster's Hall of Fame.

He is also the recipient of four Emmy Awards, and many coveted and prestigious awards for his contributions to the field of broadcasting. In 2008 he was awarded the National Association of Broadcasters Distinguished Service Award. His radio program The Osgood File has earned him five coveted Washington Journalism Review Best in the Business Awards.

The series of lectures on civility will run throughout 2011 and feature speakers from politics, the media, finance, business and other areas. Some of the nation's most insightful minds will explore the crisis and offer their opinion as to how we can restore civility in society.

The next lecture is on May 23rd with Philip K. Howard, author and lawyer, who will speak on civility in everyday life. Economist and author Henry Kaufman, who will speak on civility on Wall Street, follows Howard on June 20th. All lectures in the series take place at the Carnegie Council's headquarters in New York City at 5:30 PM Eastern Time.
