Interleague All Star Baseball Game Between Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic to air in U.S. on WAPA America

NEW YORK, Dec. 9, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- The best baseball players of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League and the Puerto Rican Professional Baseball League will face off on Sunday, December 12, at the Interleague All Star game, which will air exclusively on WAPA America, the U.S. cable network arm of the leading broadcast station in Puerto Rico, WAPA Television.

Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic have been long-time rivals in the sport, and are the two Latin countries with the most active players in Major League Baseball (MLB). The Interleague All Star game will determine the baseball champions of the Caribbean.

Puerto Rico's team includes several active MLB players, including Jesus Feliciano (New York Mets), Alex Cora (New York Mets), Alex Cintron (Washington Nationals), and Ramon Vazquez (Pittsburgh Pirates).

Numerous active MLB players make up The Dominican Republic's team as well, including Anderson Hernandez (Houston Astros), Jorge Sosa (Florida Marlins), Erick Almonte (New York Yankees), Emilio Bonifacio (Florida Marlins), and Julio Borbon (Texas Rangers).

The game, in its fifth year, will be dedicated to MLB star Carlos Beltran, in honor of his achievements in the sport and his philanthropic work within the Puerto Rican community.

The game will feature Spanish-language commentary by a WAPA sports anchor and will take place at the Isidoro Garcia Stadium in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.
