The University of Florida Launches 'Country 103.7 - The Gator' & Invites the Community to Vote on the Station's New Look
GAINESVILLE, Fla., Dec. 9, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- UF-owned "Country 103.7 - The Gator" invites the community to log on to Country1037TheGator.com to vote on one of three possible logos to brand the new radio station. Country 103.7 - The Gator is a 100,000-watt new, contemporary Country station operated by UF's College of Journalism and Communications serving the Gainesville-Ocala Radio Market.
"We are excited to engage our community to help choose the new Country 103.7 - The Gator logo," said Randy Wright, UF's executive director of multimedia properties. "After all, the station is theirs; we want our listeners to decide. They know what 'The Gator' is all about. We look forward to their votes."
As a thank you, the station will give all participants that enter their name and email address a chance to win two tickets to see Reba McEntire, George Strait and Lee Ann Womack at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena on Friday, January 28, 2011.
On October 15, 2010 the University of Florida switched its commercial FM station, WRUF 103.7 FM, to a country-music format. Under its new name, "Country 103.7 - The Gator," the station now broadcasts country music to attract a broader audience and help ensure the economic viability of the UF media properties for decades to come. "This is country...the Gator way," said on-air host, Gator Ron.
"The switch to country, the most popular format in the Gainesville-Ocala radio market and the U.S., was the logical choice after thoroughly examining the marketplace, the industry, and how we could best serve our listeners and partners," explained Wright.
Country music enthusiasts want to hear the fresh new hits, an FM with a better signal, and one that is based in Gainesville. The station will continue to air Gator football, baseball and basketball games under the new Country format. Rock music will air online at Rock104.com.
