"Tripp is an accomplished and distinguished entrepreneur with a background in building and growing successful companies," said Jim Kennedy, Cox Enterprises chairman. "His insight into the technology and financial sectors will prove valuable to the board as Cox continues to grow and diversify."
Cox plans to create a new advisory development committee to be chaired by Rackley, focusing on planning for growth opportunities.
Rackley founded and served as chief executive officer for Firethorn, a leading provider of mobile commerce solutions, and currently serves on the company's Board of Advisors. Firethorn was acquired in November 2007 by Qualcomm, Inc.
Prior to Firethorn, Rackley held the role of entrepreneur-in-residence at Noro-Moseley Partners. He also served as founder, chairman and chief executive officer for nFront, Inc., a provider of full-service Internet banking solutions for financial institutions. He led nFront to a successful initial public offering in 1999 and subsequent sale to Digital Insight, now an Intuit company, in 2000.
Rackley was recognized by Bank Technology News as one of banking's most influential people of the last 20 years, is a member of Bank Technology News' Innovators Hall of Fame, and was named the Ernst & Young Regional Entrepreneur of the Year in 2000.
A graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, Rackley serves on the Board for Georgia Tech's Alexander Tharpe Foundation and is a member of the Georgia Tech Industrial and Systems Engineering Advisory Board, and Georgia Tech's Engineering Hall of Fame.
