Loewe Selects Trident's DTV Chipset Solutions to Power New High-end 'Individual' Line of HD Televisions
The New Individual LED Backlit TVs Take Advantage of Trident's Unparalleled Picture Quality, Reduced Power Consumption and Flexible Design
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Trident Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: TRID), a leading provider of set-top box and TV semiconductor solutions, today announced that the Trident PNX5120 chipset and DRX-K demodulator have been chosen to power Loewe's newly announced Individual line of HD televisions. The new Individual series represents a new class of home entertainment systems by delivering LED backlighting, full-HD 400 Hz motion picture display, individual configuration for various living arrangements, energy efficiency and new menu and multimedia features.
"The Individual series takes advantage of key Trident technology such as our dimming algorithm for low power and best picture performance, sharpness and Wide Color Gamut (WCG) adjustment for spectacular picture quality, and our robust modular DVB-T/DVB-C demodulator solution," said Dirk Wieberneit, senior vice president and general manager of the Trident TV Business unit. "We enjoyed working closely with the Loewe team to adapt our core technology to meet their particular needs and bring to market a very high-end and feature-rich LED backlit television."
About the PNX5120 Chipset
The PNX5120 is an advanced video picture improvement IC incorporating Trident's Motion Accurate Picture Processing (MAPP) for driving 120 and 240Hz panels. This is the world's first solution to combine movie judder cancellation, motion sharpness and vivid color management in a single device. The PNX5120 can also be used to directly control a 2D dimming backlight by running the Trident 2D dimming backlight control algorithm. This removes the need for an external backlight controller, significantly reduces power consumption and increases the contrast ratio.
About the DRX-K Chipset
The DRX family is a widely used demodulator family combining low cost of ownership with excellent and widely recognized performance on demodulation of DVB-T, DVB-C and analog TV signals in a single package. This product exceeds major European receiver standards.
