'Bottoms Up' to the Dragons

'Bottoms Up' to the Dragons

LONDON, September 23, 2010/PRNewswire/ -- Just over a year ago the creator of 'The Tulip', a pre-filled wine goblet
stood awkwardly as Dragons' Den's five venture capitalists gave him a tough
time.

Now the founder of Wine Innovations, James 'the Dragon Slayer' Nash, from
London is raising a glass after the product has become a success.

James spent three years designing and manufacturing the machine that
fills his plastic goblets with wine and then seals them with a foil top lid
to give the wine up to a 12-month shelf life. The goblet provides a great
solution for picnics, outdoor events and for people that just don't want to
open a full bottle.

The Dragons' Den panel declined Mr Nash's request for GBP250,000 in
exchange for a 25 percent share in his business, but they have certainly
missed a trick.

On Friday, viewers of Dragons' Den: What Happened Next will be able to
catch up with Wine Innovations' progress. This includes a contract with Marks
& Spencer, plus sales through Arriva Rail and Bookers Direct. In addition, a
license agreement is about to be concluded with a company in Australia.

The Tulip has also been on sale at music and outdoor events this summer.
Over 12,000 units were sold at a recent Westlife concert in August alone.

James Nash, Director, Wine Innovations said: "We could not have predicted
the fantastic reaction to our products following our appearance on Dragons'
Den. As it turns out, the programme was just the spring board our business
needed. I would recommend giving Dragons' Den a go to anyone with a good
idea, but whatever the outcome don't give up - the Dragons don't always get
it right."

Wine Innovations is up for two awards in the UK Packaging Design Awards
held in November, and has just recently received a Starpack Packaging Award.

Going forward James is on the lookout for international partners to help
take the Tulip to the four corners of the globe.

Dragons' Den: What Happened Next on Friday, 21:00 on BBC Two.
