Fizziology and Variety Create Chart of Top Movies in Social Media

Partnership Will Showcase Social Media Data and Insights from the Week's Top Movies

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Fizziology, the social media research company that measures the world of entertainment using the world of online conversation, announced today that it has entered into a partnership agreement with Variety, the premier source for business entertainment news and analysis, to create a weekly chart of the biggest movies in social media.

The Weekly Fizz10, Fizziology's proprietary chart of the Top 10 movies in the world of social media, will be published every Wednesday on Variety.com. The partnership also includes the use of additional Fizziology social media data and insights.

The Weekly Fizz10 tracks and ranks movies starting four weeks before release through their third week of release. Movies are ranked by eff score, a scoring system that combines volume, sentiment and placement to provide a holistic metric for social media buzz. Real people - not automated keyword searches - read a statistically relevant sample of the social media chatter to grade sentiment, spot trends, and identify what is driving the conversation. Fizziology's findings from hundreds of tracked movies will provide comps and context for the data.

Ben Carlson, President and co-creator of Fizziology, says, "The industry has been using social media to promote, but a lot can be learned from listening. These millions of online conversations are impacting entertainment. We help marketers, content creators and other entertainment decision makers understand what people are talking about - spotting challenges and opportunities."

Neil Stiles, president of Variety, says, "Variety's number-one priority is to provide our subscribers with the news and information that's essential for them to do their jobs. Fizziology is an ideal partner because it enables us to expand our available array of 'must have' data and information, and helps our readers understand how to best utilize social media as a promotional platform."

Carlson is also excited about the partnership. "Variety is the gold standard in business entertainment reporting and coverage. We launched a year ago with the goal of being the gold standard in social media research for the entertainment industry. This partnership is exciting and humbling."

With the partnership starting today, it is both ironic and appropriate that a movie about the rise of social networking - The Social Network - is the movie topping the Weekly Fizz10.
