JMR Electronics Redefines Digital Production and Post Production Workflows at NAB 2010 with New BlueStor Product Line

The new DigiLab and RapidEncode Video Servers dramatically shorten project times for on-location production and digital asset delivery applications

LAS VEGAS, April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- NAB Booth SL7408 -- JMR Electronics, Inc., the leading value provider of scalable storage systems for video and data intensive applications, invites attendees of NAB 2010 to be among the first to preview the new DigiLabTM and RapidEncodeTM Video Server offerings under their award-winning BlueStor brand of high-performance digital workflow solutions. JMR will also be showing their field proven FibreStreamTM Fibre Channel solution at their booth.

JMR's BlueStorTM DigiLabTM and RapidEncodeTM Video Servers combine the latest CPU, PCI-Express hardware and I-O components together with JMR's patented high-performance storage technology to shortcut on-set and post production workflows, saving production crews and studios time and money.

The DigiLab Video Server is an extremely flexible, open platform storage system that delivers unprecedented on-location digital image processing performance, monitoring and control functionality for the most demanding digital cinema workflows, whether on-set or in a post facility.

The DigiLab Video Server seamlessly integrates top-of-the-line Quad-Core Intel® processors, nVidia® (or other brand) graphics card, built-in Blu-rayTM writer and a 19-in-1 media reader into a high performance 16-drive hot-swappable RAID storage system. Using JMR's patented PCI-Express based storage technology for higher RAID performance and easy capacity scaling, each DigiLab contains dual RAID controllers and dual SAS expanders that provide higher real world throughput rates than any competing solution. The result - the DigiLab Video Server delivers a sustained transfer rate of over 1,400 MB/s, easily accommodating 4 streams of 1080p24 @ 16 bit RGB, 3 streams of 2K x 1,556p24 @ 16 bit RGB or one stream of 4Kp24 (RED) at 16 bit RGB, while providing the processing power to run sophisticated digital intermediate and editing applications.

When combined with optional hardware like the RED RocketTM accelerator and a color timing application, the DigiLab makes on-location ingesting and transcoding from any of today's digital media formats a breeze - resulting in huge time and cost savings. The DigiLab provides the ability to quickly capture files directly from the camera's storage, monitor raw footage in real time, apply first pass color correction right on location and even burn a Blu-ray disc for dailies with the viewing LUTs (Look Up Tables) applied. With creative intentions still fresh in the DP's mind, now they can now walk to the truck after their shoot wraps, pick up a scene, color time and correct saturation, gamma, etc. as opposed to sending their digital footage to a lab technician to create dailies, guessing what they wanted the scene to look like.

Editors can also be moved on location to begin editing scenes an hour or two after dailies have been created - saving additional time and money. The DigiLab is so powerful, it can service up to two editors at the same time.

The RapidEncode Video Server is an all-in-one high performance SD and HD encoding and transcoding system that can turn digital media into delivery-ready file based assets quickly and easily. Based on the same architecture as the DigiLab Video Server, the 16-drive RAID system integrates Digital Rapids® PCI based capture and encoding hardware and software to capture HD or SD video in its native format, or convert it in hardware during capture from HD to SD, SD to HD or between HD resolutions and frame rates.

RapidEncode can capture from live or tape-based sources to uncompressed files, or encode directly to target formats at up to 1920 x 1080 in real time. Offering expansive flexibility, codec options include: DRC Studio AVC, DRC AVC for Flash, MXF Import/Export, DVC Pro, DNH HD, 3GPP for Mobile and MPEG to name a few.

Fully configured, the Rapid Encode Video Server features adaptive bit rate streaming technology, enabling higher-quality viewing experiences with television-like continuity and reliability for the web and mobile device applications. The results are consistent, uninterrupted viewing experiences up to HD quality even under dramatically changing network connectivity and playback conditions.

The RapidEncode is the perfect studio partner for encoding/transcoding EPK and trailer screenings files, captioning and subtitle reference files, internet media assets, mezzanine versioning assets, features and episodic rollouts for PPV and VOD, internet, IPTV and mobile applications.

In addition, JMR's integration of industry-leading BlueStor RAID technology also guarantees that every DigiLab and RapidEncode is an easily scalable solution: Adding more capacity is a simple, nearly effortless task.

JMR's FibreStream, introduced last year, is aimed at content creators in need of fast and affordable Fibre Channel-based storage. When added to an existing Storage Area Network (SAN), the FibreStream solution becomes a highly scalable and reliable system that can be configured for RAID levels 0, 1, 4, 5, 6, 10, 40, 50 or 60. FibreStream features a built-in 4-port 4Gb FC switch, and is the highest performance per dollar storage system available on the market, with an average measured read speed of 1,317 MB/sec and an average measured write speed of 756 MB/sec.

"We're excited to introduce the new DigiLab and RapidEncode systems to the production and post production communities," said Josef Rabinovitz, president and CEO of JMR. "Leading facilities in Hollywood and abroad are using the BlueStor line to redefine their production and post production workflows and the new systems will dramatically shorten the project completion time window for speed-intensive demands in HD, 3D and Digital Intermediate stereoscopic workflows."

The NAB Show is held at the Las Vegas Convention Center from April 12th through the 15th. Visit www.jmr.com today to obtain a registration code for a free exhibits-only pass, and enter JMR's special Apple iPad giveaway.
