NOVATO, Calif., Dec. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sonic Solutions® (NASDAQ:SNIC) today announced that it has joined the Open Screen Project, an industry-wide initiative led by Adobe to provide consumers consistent internet and rich media experiences across the broadest possible range of consumer electronics. Sonic's participation in the Open Screen Project and support for the Adobe® Flash® Platform will enable manufacturers of connected devices including televisions, set-top boxes, mobile phones and other consumer electronics to quickly incorporate and deploy premium entertainment services powered by Roxio CinemaNow(TM) such as those offered by Best Buy and Blockbuster.
"Sonic is a strong believer in open standards and industry initiatives that help provide consumers a richer and more convenient entertainment experience," said Mark Ely, executive vice president of strategy, Sonic Solutions. "By collaborating in the Open Screen Project we expect to significantly advance the availability of digital movie services and allow millions of consumers to enjoy their favorite entertainment when and where they choose."
Led by Adobe, the Open Screen Project includes close to 50 industry leaders working together to provide a consistent runtime environment and user experience across mobile phones, desktops, and other consumer electronics devices. The initiative addresses the challenges of Web browsing on a broad range of devices, and removes the barriers to publishing content and applications seamlessly across screens.
